My 1st of my Son’s 1st

Today I did something that I never thought I’d do.

It’s not because I thought it was “bad” or “wrong” it just wasn’t “me.”

Until now…

I got my first tattoo!

Notice that I said “first!”

I have given this a lot of thought since Billy’s murder 7 months ago.

I wanted to do something very special and meaningful in honor of his upcoming Birthday on September 1st.

My 1st tattoo was his 1st tattoo.

My friend Tanya referred me to Chuck, the owner of Chuck’s Tattooing and Body Piercing. He was great and does fabulous work!

If you read my first blog post titled “Let’s start at the very beginning” you know that my son and I shared a love of music.

We loved ALL kinds of music!

I am more of a singer, although I did take piano lessons at different times in my life. I started piano lessons when I was 7 years old, again when I was in my late 20’s and then again when I was 37. Maybe I’ll try again someday.

My son Billy was a extremely talented guitar player. It was definitely a gift.

I must of had a Mother’s instinct because I bought him an acoustic play guitar for his 5th birthday.

He picked up a real guitar when he was 15.

We got that acoustic guitar for him for Christmas.

He never put it down. He was always playing someone’s music or playing his own songs.

It will be interesting to watch what his son Logan decides to do with music. Today was day B for kindergarten which means that he had music class. That was pretty special, today of all days.

At first I thought I wanted my tattoo to be exactly like Billy’s tattoo. The more I thought about it, I realized that I wanted to make it just a little bit more special.

I decided that instead of getting my tattoo on the front of my left arm where Billy had his tattoo, I got my tattoo on the inside of my right arm and just a little bit smaller.

The reason that I did that is because if I were to hold Billy’s left hand with my right hand, our tattoos would touch.

Just like our hearts were always touched by music and our deep love for each other…

My son Jami who has a few tattoos of his own, thinks my tattoo is awesome!

My children Robbie and Virginia think that that my tattoo is really cool and it makes me a cooler Mom! They keep taking pictures of my arm for their “snaps.”

Even Logan told me that I’m a cool Nana with my tattoo!

We were all laughing in the kitchen when we were discussing how old you have to be to get a tattoo. Robbie is hoping for 16, Virginia says 18 and Logan said “5 or maybe 20.”

Logan is 5 years old and his Daddy was 20 when he got his 1st tattoo, but Logan was only a baby then and he didn’t know that…

I’m sure Billy was watching the whole time smiling from ear to ear, strumming his newest guitar that plays the love of his heart and the music of his soul.

  1. First let me offer my sincere condolences on the loss of your beautiful son. I saw this because I posted the same symbol & I want one. I do love music, but it is also an adoption symbol as I was adopted.
I can’t believe this has no likes, but it has big love from me to you. Stacy
